General Anaesthesia
General anesthesia facilitates the performance of surgical and other interventional procedures in the absence of awareness in a rapid and safe condition.
Neuromuscular-blocking drugs
Cisatracurium is indicated for neuromuscular blockade for endotracheal intubation, surgery or mechanical ventilation. It is used as an adjunct to general anesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to relax skeletal muscles during surgery or mechanical ventilation in adequately sedated ICU patients.
Various trials have compared cisatracurium with drugs of the same class. Results show that in spite of slightly slower onset of action, cisatracurium provides more acceptable intubating conditions in the majority of patients after 180 seconds. The clinical duration and recovery index are also longer in cisatracurium. Studies have also supported cisatracurium’s safety in organ transplant operations. Its excellent cardiovascular stability is beneficial to patients with coronary artery disease who need very stable haemodynamics.
